Drafted by the Lions in the fifth round in 2020, Cephus flashed potential during his rookie season, recording 349 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 35 targets while catching passes from Matthew Stafford. But his career quickly stalled due to injuries and a suspension related to the NFL’s gambling investigation in 2023. While fellow Lions receiver Jameson Williams returned from his suspension, Cephus never regained his footing.
Cephus signed with the Rams earlier this offseason, hoping to reignite his career alongside his former quarterback, Stafford. But after struggling to secure a spot during minicamp, Los Angeles opted to cut ties as they prepare for the upcoming season with a new star receiver, Davante Adams, headlining their offense.
Despite his setbacks, Cephus could still catch on with another team in need of wide receiver depth as training camps ramp up. With injuries an ever-present concern in the NFL, his experience and potential could earn him another shot.
