The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Mets’ Double-A team, are switching things up for the 2025 season with a playful twist. For two games, they’re ditching their usual name and rebranding as the “Bathtub Donkeys.” Yep, you read that right!
The team announced this quirky name change as a nod to an old, bizarre New York law banning donkeys from sleeping in bathtubs. The origin? Apparently, there was a wild incident where a donkey fell asleep in a tub, and the whole thing floated away during a flood. After the poor donkey had to be rescued, someone thought, “Let’s make sure this never happens again,” and the law was born.
Fans can catch the Bathtub Donkeys in action on June 28 against the Portland Sea Dogs and on July 30 against the Harrisburg Senators. It’s all in good fun, and it’s definitely giving people something to talk about this season.
