From Eagle to Lion? Star Player Weighs Offseason Transition

Darius Slay Leaves Door Open for Potential Lions Return
Fresh off a Super Bowl LIX victory, the Philadelphia Eagles are facing tough roster decisions—including the future of veteran cornerback Darius Slay.

At 34 years old, Slay is entering the final year of his contract, but with rookie corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean waiting in the wings, the Eagles may decide to move on. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell has even suggested Slay as a potential cap casualty, as the team looks to avoid paying his $16.1 million bonus.

So, where does Slay want to be in 2025?

“I got one more left,” he said on The St. Brown Podcast, adding:

“The two spots I would love to always be at are either Philly or Detroit.”

Slay spent his first seven seasons with the Lions, where he became a fan favorite. While he hopes to stay in Philly, he made it clear that a return to Detroit would be on the table.

“I love Detroit. That’s my second home. I do a lot for the city still, to this day. If it is, it is. If it ain’t, it ain’t.”

In 2024, Slay recorded 49 tackles, 13 passes defended, one forced fumble, and 3.5 stuffs. If the Lions are looking for a veteran presence in the secondary, a reunion might not be out of the question.
