The Dallas Cowboys have acquired cornerback Kaiir Elam from the Buffalo Bills. In exchange, the Cowboys sent a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Bills, while also receiving a 2025 sixth-round pick from Buffalo.
Elam, 24, was selected 23rd overall by the Bills in the 2022 NFL Draft. Over three seasons, he appeared in 29 games with 12 starts, recording 81 tackles and two interceptions. Despite his potential, Elam struggled to secure a consistent starting role in Buffalo.
The Cowboys aim to bolster their secondary with Elam’s addition, especially following the departure of cornerback Jourdan Lewis in free agency and the uncertain status of Trevon Diggs, who underwent knee surgery in January.
Elam’s father, Abram Elam, has ties to Dallas, having played safety for the Cowboys in 2006 and 2011.
This trade presents an opportunity for Elam to revitalize his career in a new environment, potentially emerging as a key contributor to the Cowboys’ defense.
