From IR to ATL: Former Lions Receiver DJ Chark Gets One-Year Deal With Falcons

Former Detroit Lions wide receiver DJ Chark is getting another shot in the NFL. After a rocky couple of seasons marked by injuries and low production, Chark has signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Chark spent the 2022 season in Detroit, playing 11 games and hauling in 30 catches for 502 yards and three touchdowns. His deep-threat ability and 16.7 yards per reception gave the Lions offense a much-needed vertical boost. But after departing Detroit, things took a turn. He had short stints with the Panthers and Chargers, finishing the 2024 season with just four catches for 31 yards before landing on injured reserve with a hip injury.

Now healthy and with a new opportunity in front of him, Chark joins a Falcons receiver room in need of depth after Darnell Mooney suffered a shoulder injury expected to keep him sidelined for several weeks. With Drake London and Ray-Ray McCloud leading the group, Chark has a real chance to carve out a role and make Atlanta’s 53-man roster.

At 6-foot-3 with career averages of 14.4 yards per reception and 24 touchdowns in 76 games, the LSU product brings size, experience, and speed to a WR corps full of question marks. It’s a low-risk move for the Falcons and a much-needed fresh start for Chark, who’s determined to prove he still belongs in the league.

Detroit may have moved on from Chark, but he’s not done writing his NFL story just yet.
