Darius Slay Discusses Future, Leaves Door Open for Detroit Return
As Darius Slay enters the final year of his contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, his future remains uncertain. At 34 years old, the veteran cornerback carries a hefty $14.6 million signing bonus, and with younger talent like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean emerging, the Eagles may decide to move on.
Slay, however, made it clear on The St. Brown Podcast that he still plans to play in 2025—whether that’s in Philadelphia or Detroit remains to be seen.
“The two spots I would love to always be at are Philly and Detroit. The main two.”
A fan favorite in Detroit, Slay spent seven seasons with the Lions before being traded in 2020. His impact on the city goes beyond football, as he reflected on his mentorship of young Detroit talent, including Sauce Gardner, Avonte Maddox, and Donovan Peoples-Jones.
“I love Detroit, that’s my second home. I do a lot for the city still, to this day.”
With the Lions needing help in the secondary, could a Slay reunion be in the works? It all depends on how Philadelphia handles its offseason moves.
