The Detroit Lions didn’t waste much time addressing a major gap in their offensive line after longtime center Frank Ragnow officially announced his retirement. Just days after the surprise move, Detroit added former Arizona Cardinals lineman Trystan Colon to the mix.

Colon brings versatility to the table—he played center in college but spent last season lining up at guard for the Cardinals. That flexibility could prove useful for a Lions offensive line that’s still very much in flux, particularly along the interior. However, Colon’s ceiling as a full-time starter remains in question, which may prompt Detroit to keep looking for a more solid solution at center.

One potential target is Los Angeles Rams lineman Beaux Limmer. NFL.com’s Gennaro Filice floated the idea that the Lions should consider trading for Limmer as they look to fill the void left by Ragnow.

Limmer, a sixth-round pick by the Rams in 2024, was thrust into action far earlier than expected during his rookie season. The Rams had initially planned for former Lions guard Jonah Jackson to start at center, but an early-season injury sidelined Jackson after just four games. Limmer stepped in and started 14 games in his absence.

While Limmer showed flashes of potential, especially in run blocking—a trait that made Ragnow so valuable—he did face challenges in pass protection, allowing 21 pressures. Still, that run-blocking upside makes him an interesting fit for Detroit, especially if he takes another step forward in his development this offseason.

With the Rams re-signing veteran Coleman Shelton to play center, there’s speculation they may be willing to part ways with Limmer. If that’s the case, the Lions could have a realistic shot at acquiring a young lineman with real game experience under his belt.

Limmer may not be a home-run answer for the Lions at center, but given his 14 starts as a rookie and potential to grow, he’d give the team a legitimate option—especially if the eventual replacement for Ragnow isn’t already on the roster.

As Detroit continues shaping its offensive front for the 2025 season, adding someone like Limmer could help solidify a critical spot and bring some much-needed stability to life after Ragnow.
