From the Gridiron to the Ballot Box: Slotkin Wants Democrats to Roar Like the Lions

Michigan Senate candidate Elissa Slotkin is taking inspiration from an unexpected place: the Detroit Lions.

Speaking recently, Slotkin urged fellow Democrats to adopt what she calls more “alpha energy”—a take-charge attitude she says is desperately needed as the party heads into the 2025 election season. And who better to model that grit and determination than the Lions, a team that has transformed from NFL afterthought to championship contender?

Slotkin, a former CIA analyst and U.S. Representative, said Democrats need to channel the same toughness, resilience, and unapologetic edge that has come to define Dan Campbell’s Lions. She praised the team for not just winning games, but doing so with attitude and conviction—something she feels her party needs to mirror on the political field.

“People want to see leaders who can fight, take hits, and keep moving forward,” Slotkin said. “That’s what the Lions are doing—and that’s exactly the kind of energy we need.”

Her comments reflect a broader call for Democrats to be more assertive and relatable in key battleground states like Michigan, where blue-collar pride and football loyalty run deep.

Slotkin’s approach might just strike a chord with voters who are tired of cautious politics and looking for leaders who, like their football team, aren’t afraid to bite some kneecaps along the way.
