From the Lions to the Saints: Former QB on Verge of Landing Head Coaching Gig

Ex-Lions QB Kellen Moore Finalizing Deal to Become Saints’ Head Coach

Kellen Moore, a former Detroit Lions backup quarterback, is set to take over as the New Orleans Saints’ next head coach, according to reports. Moore, who spent three seasons behind Matthew Stafford in Detroit but never saw game action, has built an impressive coaching resume. He most recently served as the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator, helping them capture a Super Bowl title.

After his playing days ended with the Dallas Cowboys, Moore quickly transitioned into coaching, working his way up from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator. He held OC roles with the Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, and Eagles before landing his first head coaching opportunity.

With Moore’s hiring, the NFL’s coaching carousel officially comes to a close following the Super Bowl, and the Detroit Lions’ coaching staff has already been hit hard. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson left for the Chicago Bears, while defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn took the New York Jets job.

As the Lions look to replace two key staff members, Moore now faces a new challenge—revitalizing a Saints team that has struggled to find consistency in recent years. Will he be the right fit for New Orleans, and can Detroit continue to develop coaching talent for the league’s top jobs?
