The New York Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, but they’re still keeping an eye on quarterbacks for the 2025 NFL draft. Chris Mara, the team’s senior player personnel executive and brother of the team president, was recently spotted at Ole Miss’ pro day checking out quarterback Jaxson Dart. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan mentioned that Mara was part of a big group that went down to Oxford to see Dart, which stood out given how much the Giants are scouting QBs.
Dart is an interesting option despite some doubts about his potential. Jon Gruden, a former Super Bowl-winning head coach, praised him, calling Dart a player with a “rifle arm” and “sharp mind,” saying whoever drafts him will be happy. However, others aren’t as sure, as Dart played in a college system that didn’t focus much on reading defenses or progressing through multiple reads, which could take time to adapt to in the pros.
The Giants could be looking to take a quarterback like Dart, but they’re also considering other options. They have the 34th pick, which gives them a chance to grab someone promising in the second round, but they could also look at quarterbacks like Will Howard from Ohio State or Jalen Milroe from Alabama if they decide to wait until later. Though they don’t desperately need a QB now, the Giants are keeping all options open as they continue to improve their depth chart.
