Looks like the New York Giants still aren’t fully set at tight end, even after drafting Theo Johnson last year. Word is, they’re bringing in Miami Hurricanes’ Elijah Arroyo for a pre-draft visit, and he’s definitely one of the more exciting TE prospects in this class.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Arroyo is making the rounds this week—meeting with the Texans, then the Browns, and finally landing in New York to chat with the Giants.
Arroyo’s a 6-foot-5 beast with serious receiving skills. Kyle Crabbs from The 33rd Team even compared him to Kyle Pitts, saying he’s got a huge wingspan, sticky hands, and the kind of athleticism that makes him dangerous. Miami used him all over in their offense—RPOs, screens, play action—you name it. He’s the kind of tight end who can fit into a modern NFL scheme pretty easily.
Another draft expert, Daniel Harms, called Arroyo a “vertical weapon” and praised his hands and football smarts. If the Giants draft him, he’d probably compete with Johnson for playing time, but they could also use both in two-TE sets. Chris Manhertz is still around as the main blocking tight end, and Greg Dulcich and Daniel Bellinger are on the roster too, so it’s a crowded room.
Where Arroyo Ranks Among Draft Prospects
NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has Arroyo ranked 43rd overall in his Top 50 prospects list and as the No. 4 tight end in the class. He called Arroyo an athletic, seam-stretching TE who mostly lined up in the slot at Miami.
Jeremiah noted that Arroyo’s quick off the line, picks up speed downfield, and shines when running vertical routes or crossing the field. He’s still developing as a route runner, but he’s got great hands, tracks the ball well, and can break off big plays even on limited touches.
Health Checks Matter Too
One reason the Giants probably want an up-close look is to check on Arroyo’s health. He missed chunks of two seasons with a knee injury, so teams want to make sure everything checks out before pulling the trigger.
That said, he looked great during Senior Bowl week and is coming off a solid season—13 games, 590 yards, and 7 touchdowns, catching passes from Cam Ward, who might go No. 1 overall.
So yeah, Arroyo’s medicals will be important, but it sounds more like due diligence than anything. The Giants are set to meet with him on April 9, so we’ll see if they’re serious about adding another weapon to their offense.
