With the NFL Draft just around the corner, the New York Giants are sitting on the No. 3 overall pick, and fans have been wondering if they’ll take a swing at Shedeur Sanders, the flashy QB out of Colorado. But according to a well-connected insider, that’s probably not happening.
The team is coming off a brutal 2024 season, and both head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen are under serious pressure to turn things around. That means finding a long-term solution at quarterback is a top priority.
Now, Shedeur Sanders — son of NFL legend Deion Sanders — is expected to still be on the board when the Giants are up. And it’s not like they haven’t done their homework. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan said the Giants had scouts at every Colorado game last year. GM Joe Schoen made several trips to see him in person, and even assistant GM Brandon Brown talked to the Colorado squad during a midseason practice. Daboll even went to the Shrine Bowl just to meet Sanders. So yeah, they did their due diligence.
Sanders has apparently visited the team post-combine and might even get a private workout in before the draft. But after all that effort, it looks like the Giants just aren’t sold on him.
Raanan says someone close to the team believes the front office isn’t really in love with Sanders. Instead, the current vibe is that they’re more likely to take someone like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or even cornerback Travis Hunter or wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. — and then go hunting for a QB later in the draft.
Lately, there’s been buzz about the Giants potentially trading back into the first round or using an early second-round pick to target guys like Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart or Alabama’s Jalen Milroe.
Bottom line: Shedeur Sanders might be a big name, but it doesn’t look like he’s in the Giants’ big plans for that No. 3 pick.
