Giants’ Draft Path Just Got Easier—Best Player Within Reach

The New York Giants may be picking third in the 2025 NFL Draft, but they’re in a prime position to snag the most electric player in the class—thanks to some surprises at the top.

Right now, it looks like the Tennessee Titans are locked in on Miami QB Cam Ward at No. 1. The Cleveland Browns, holding the second pick, have been linked to Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, but there are also whispers that they might go defense with Penn State linebacker Abdul Carter.

If Cleveland skips on Sanders, that could leave Colorado’s Travis Hunter—arguably the best all-around talent in the draft—right in the Giants’ lap.

How Russell Wilson Changes Everything

The Giants recently signed veteran QB Russell Wilson to a one-year deal, which shakes up their draft approach. With Wilson and Jameis Winston already on the roster, the Giants aren’t under pressure to draft a quarterback right away.

Instead of forcing a QB pick for the future, GM Joe Schoen now has the flexibility to go with the best player available at No. 3. And for a front office that needs to win ASAP, grabbing a game-changer like Hunter might be the safest bet to keep their jobs.

Travis Hunter: A Rare Talent

While most of the draft buzz around the Giants has focused on Shedeur Sanders, the team may have been eyeing his college teammate all along.

Travis Hunter is a true unicorn—he can dominate at both wide receiver and cornerback. Last season, he put up 97 catches, 1,258 yards, and 15 touchdowns on offense while also snagging four interceptions and breaking up seven passes on defense.

Hunter’s versatility would give the Giants plenty of options. He could start at receiver while providing depth in the secondary—or vice versa. Players like this don’t come around often, and his All-Pro potential on either side of the ball makes him an absolute game-changer.

Joe Schoen’s Job Is on the Line

Let’s be real: This draft could decide Joe Schoen’s future with the Giants. Vegas oddsmakers are setting the team’s over/under at just 3.5 wins for 2025, even after adding Wilson. That means Schoen needs to make an impact pick—now.

A developmental QB might help down the road, but Hunter can contribute immediately. If he’s available at No. 3, the Giants could end up with the most dynamic player in the draft. And if that translates to more wins, Schoen just might buy himself more time in New York.

So, while the offseason focus has been on quarterbacks, don’t be surprised if the Giants pull a fast one and grab the draft’s biggest playmaker instead.
