Giants’ Extensive Meeting Hints at Strong Interest in Draft Prospect

Giants Take Close Look at Edge Rusher Shemar Stewart Ahead of NFL Draft
The New York Giants are doing their due diligence on some of the top pass-rushing prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, with Texas A&M’s Shemar Stewart receiving significant attention. Giants defensive line coaches were among those who spent “considerable time” meeting with Stewart before Texas A&M’s Pro Day on March 27, per Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com.

Why Stewart Is on the Giants’ Radar
The Giants need more impact from their pass rush, despite having notable talent up front. While Brian Burns and Dexter Lawrence II are proven, there are questions about Kayvon Thibodeaux’s consistency and Azeez Ojulari has departed in free agency. Stewart, a projected first-round talent, brings intriguing upside with his combination of size, speed, and raw athleticism.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein describes Stewart as being “carved from granite” with an explosive first step, but he’s still learning to develop consistent pass-rush moves. His college production has also raised concerns—he recorded just 4.5 sacks in three seasons at Texas A&M.

A Risk Worth Taking?
Some scouts are uneasy about Stewart skipping position drills at both the NFL Combine and his Pro Day, a decision that hasn’t sat well with teams. However, this could work in the Giants’ favor if he slides to the second round, where they hold the 34th overall pick.

Under the guidance of defensive line coach Andre Patterson, Stewart could develop into a dominant force alongside Burns, Thibodeaux, and Lawrence. If the Giants are looking to bolster their pass rush, Stewart presents an intriguing—if somewhat risky—option in the draft.
