Giants in the Market? Team Linked to Young QB Trade Talks

The New York Giants were apparently in the mix for quarterback Joe Milton before the Dallas Cowboys sealed the deal.

According to FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants, along with the Raiders, Eagles, and Steelers, had shown interest in Milton earlier this offseason. However, the Patriots ultimately decided to send him to Dallas—reportedly as a favor to the QB himself.

Why Didn’t the Giants Make a Move?

The Giants certainly had the draft capital to outbid Dallas, but they may have felt Milton wasn’t worth the asking price. Plus, they’ve since signed veteran QBs Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, which suggests they had other plans at the position.

Another possibility? Milton just didn’t want to come to New York. Schultz hinted that the Patriots let him choose his destination, and Milton himself later confirmed that he grew up a Cowboys fan.

“My mom always had a Cowboys shirt on,” Milton told Schultz. “Living in Texas has been a longtime dream of mine.”

What the Cowboys Gave Up

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Dallas acquired Milton for a simple two-round draft pick swap—a 5th-rounder for Milton and a 7th-rounder. That’s a far cry from the 3rd-round pick the Patriots were reportedly asking for earlier this offseason.

While Milton won’t be starting anytime soon behind Dak Prescott, the Cowboys’ QB1 has had his share of injuries. If Milton gets a shot to play, this trade could work out well for both him and Dallas in the long run.
