The New York Giants are still hunting for a quarterback, and while Aaron Rodgers has been their dream target, analysts say Jameis Winston could also be a solid fit. NFL.com’s Nick Shook matched Winston with the Giants in free agency, arguing that New York needs multiple QB options, not just Rodgers—especially since Rodgers has yet to make a decision.
Winston is known for his aggressive downfield throws, which could work well with star rookie wideout Malik Nabers. Sure, he has a history of turnovers, but his ability to rack up passing yards makes him an intriguing option for Big Blue.
Why Winston to the Giants Makes Sense
Even if the Giants grab a quarterback with the third overall pick in the draft, having a veteran like Winston could help. Former Giants running back Saquon Barkley even hinted at the possibility, telling Winston at Super Bowl media day that New York needs a QB. When asked which New York team he meant, Barkley made it clear: Big Blue.
The Giants reportedly met with Winston on Tuesday, keeping their options open while Rodgers continues to hold up the market. With the Vikings now out of the Rodgers sweepstakes, it’s down to the Steelers and Giants for his services.
If Rodgers chooses Pittsburgh, New York could pivot to Winston and still draft a QB, possibly trading back into the first round for someone like Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. Milroe just turned heads at Alabama’s pro day with a lightning-fast 40-yard dash, adding another layer of intrigue to the Giants’ QB search.
For now, all eyes remain on Rodgers. But if he picks Pittsburgh, don’t be surprised if Winston is wearing blue next season.
