The New York Giants’ offense has been pretty underwhelming the past couple of seasons—big plays have been rare, and moving the ball downfield has been a grind. But GM Joe Schoen thinks that’s about to change in 2025.
More Speed, More Deep Shots
In an interview with Giants.com, Schoen talked up the team’s playmakers, emphasizing their speed and ability to stretch the field.
“Dabs [head coach Brian Daboll] wants to air it out, and those explosive plays are key,” Schoen said. “Instead of grinding through 10- or 11-play drives, we need those big gains. And we’ve got the guys to do it—Slayton, Hyatt, Nabers, Wan’Dale [Robinson] in the slot, and Theo [Johnson] at tight end. We’ve got speed.”
The problem? The Giants haven’t exactly maximized those weapons. But with a new quarterback in town, Schoen expects things to change.
“We’ve got receivers who can get open deep, and that’s one of the things Russ [Wilson] does really well,” Schoen said. “Dabs will build the offense around what Russ likes, using the talent we have at receiver, tight end, and running back.”
Russell Wilson Could Unlock the Giants’ Deep Passing Game
Wilson’s deep ball has always been his calling card, and even as he’s aged, that skill hasn’t faded. Last season, he completed 54% of his 20+ yard throws, racking up 851 yards, seven touchdowns, and just two interceptions in 11 starts. He even earned the highest deep-passing grade from PFF.
Schoen is banking on Wilson’s ability to finally take advantage of the Giants’ deep-threat receivers, something their past quarterbacks struggled with. If everything clicks, Big Blue could be a whole lot more dangerous on offense in 2025.
