Giants’ QB Plans Take a Wild Turn with $38.7M Decision

The New York Giants signed Jameis Winston, but they’re not necessarily done adding quarterbacks. Despite already securing Winston on a two-year, $8 million deal, the Giants are still keeping an eye on Russell Wilson, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Florio reported on March 23 that multiple sources confirm Wilson is still on the Giants’ radar, even after the Winston signing. Initially, Florio believed the Giants were out of the market for another veteran QB, but a source corrected that assumption, stating that Winston was brought in as a backup and that Wilson is still in play.

Wilson or Rodgers? Giants Still Considering Veteran QBs

Adding Wilson wouldn’t come cheap—Spotrac projects his market value at $38.7 million per year for two seasons. That’s a steep price for a 36-year-old QB who has been inconsistent in recent years. However, Florio’s source also noted that Aaron Rodgers technically remains an option for the Giants, though that move now seems unlikely.

This means Wilson could be the top available quarterback for a Giants team that may not be sold on Daniel Jones as their long-term answer.

Winston Deal Could Set Up a Draft Play

By signing Winston, the Giants also give themselves flexibility in the 2025 NFL Draft. Instead of overpaying for an aging quarterback, they could target a young prospect like Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) and develop him for the future.

However, the pressure is on GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll to deliver results immediately. If they don’t think a rookie will help them win right now, they may feel forced to spend big on Wilson.

Would adding another veteran QB be smart team-building or just desperation? The Giants have to decide fast.
