Giants’ QB Woes Deepen as Aaron Rodgers Brings More Bad News

The New York Giants got some good news on Wednesday—one of their biggest competitors for Aaron Rodgers, the Minnesota Vikings, officially bowed out of the race. That should’ve made things easier, right? Not exactly.

With just the Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers left in the mix, it seemed like Rodgers’ next move would be coming soon. But according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that’s not the case. “Nothing related to Minnesota has altered Aaron Rodgers’ timeline,” Schefter posted, adding that the free-agent QB is still “in no rush at all” to decide on his future.

That’s bad news for New York, which would prefer a quicker decision to help with their roster-building plans. And the longer Rodgers takes, the riskier things get for the Giants, who are still figuring out their quarterback situation.

The team holds the No. 3 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, but only two QBs—Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders—are widely considered top-three worthy. It’s unclear if either will still be available when the Giants make their pick. Even if they do land one of them, they’ll still need an experienced veteran to help bridge the gap, whether that’s Rodgers or someone else.

The longer Rodgers waits, the more likely it is that other veteran QBs sign elsewhere, leaving the Giants with fewer options. Now, New York is stuck waiting, hoping Rodgers makes up his mind before it’s too late.
