Giants Quietly Move On from Tyrone Tracy Jr.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. was one of the few bright spots for the Giants last season. As a rookie taken in the fifth round, he stepped into a tough situation after Saquon Barkley left and still managed to rack up 839 rushing yards, 284 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. Not bad at all. He even landed a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team and outperformed expectations big time.

But the NFL doesn’t slow down—and the Giants seem ready to hit fast-forward. Over the past few days, they’ve brought in five top running back prospects for official visits. First came Rutgers’ Kyle Monangai, followed by Ohio State’s Quinshon Judkins, Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon II, Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson… and now, North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton. Yeah, the highest-rated back of the bunch.

Safe to say, Tracy might need to watch his back.

Giants Bring in Omarion Hampton for a Closer Look

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Giants hosted UNC’s Omarion Hampton for a Top 30 visit on Thursday. He’s widely considered the second-best back in this draft class, right behind Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty. Hampton had a monster 2024 season: 1,660 rushing yards, 15 touchdowns, plus another 373 yards catching passes. He’s 6-foot, 220 pounds, ran a 4.46 at the combine, and checks pretty much every box teams look for.

He’s a physical runner with good vision and balance, and he doesn’t go down easy. Add in his ability to stay on the field for all three downs, and you’ve got a legit starting-caliber back. While he’s not the flashiest guy, he’s reliable—and that matters.

More importantly, he brings something the Giants badly need: red zone punch. The Giants ranked second to last in scoring last year, and Hampton’s 15 TDs show he knows how to finish drives.

So yeah, the Giants clearly have running back on their mind. Meeting with five top RBs isn’t just a coincidence—it’s a clear sign they might not be sold on Tracy being the guy long-term. He was a great story last season, but if the Giants draft someone like Hampton, Tracy’s going to have to fight hard to keep that RB1 spot.

Giants Fans Got Lucky with Malik Nabers

Let’s talk about Malik Nabers. The Giants took him with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 draft, and it already looks like they nailed it. Despite catching passes from guys like Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock, Nabers still put up over 100 receptions, 1,200+ yards, and 7 touchdowns in his rookie year. Just straight-up dominant.

So how did the Giants land him? Well, the teams picking before them made some questionable choices—especially the Cardinals, who picked Marvin Harrison Jr. fourth overall. Harrison wasn’t bad—800+ yards and 8 TDs—but considering he had a better QB situation, his rookie year didn’t shine nearly as bright as Nabers’.

Former NFL scout John Middlekauff didn’t hold back, saying the Cardinals probably regret not picking Nabers instead. And honestly, he’s probably right.

Giants fans, for once, get to sit back and enjoy being on the right side of a draft-day gamble. Nabers looks like a future star, and the Giants got him without having to trade up or overthink it. Let’s hope that kind of luck continues.
