Giants Scouting Rising QB Prospect—Could He Be Their Future?

The New York Giants are leaving no stone unturned in their search for a quarterback, and Louisville’s Tyler Shough is the latest prospect to draw their attention.

General manager Joe Schoen attended Shough’s pro day, signaling serious interest in the 6-foot-5 passer who turned heads with a breakout 2024 season. He threw for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just six interceptions while completing 62.7% of his passes. But while his production and prototypical size make him an intriguing prospect, his extensive injury history and age—he turns 26 in September—raise concerns about his long-term viability as a franchise quarterback.

Shough has taken a winding path to the NFL, spending seven years bouncing between Oregon, Texas Tech, and Louisville due to injuries. Despite the setbacks, scouts praise his arm strength, mobility, and ability to thrive in play-action-heavy schemes. Some analysts believe that if not for his age and injury history, he’d be in the same conversation as Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders as a top-tier prospect.

For the Giants, Shough could represent a cost-effective option in the middle rounds of the draft, allowing them to use their top picks on other areas of need. With head coach Brian Daboll and Schoen under pressure to deliver results in 2025, New York will continue exploring every avenue to improve its quarterback room.
