The New York Giants have been in the mix for Aaron Rodgers ever since he was shown the door by the Jets. But on Friday, they surprised everyone by signing another veteran quarterback.
According to FOX Sports’ Joran Schultz, the Giants are bringing in Jameis Winston on a two-year, $8 million deal, which could reach $16 million with incentives. Naturally, fans assumed this meant the Giants were moving on from Rodgers, but NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo quickly shut that idea down.
“This does not change the Giants’ pursuit of Aaron Rodgers or any other quarterback options,” Garafolo reported.
So why sign Winston? Simply put, the Giants needed another QB in the room. Before this move, Tommy DeVito was their only option.
But here’s where things get even more interesting—Rodgers reportedly spent up to six hours at the Steelers’ facility on Friday. Pittsburgh has been considered another frontrunner for the veteran quarterback, and his visit only adds fuel to the speculation.
With the Giants still in the Rodgers race and the Steelers lurking, this offseason just got a whole lot more interesting. Stay tuned!
