Giants Weigh Abdul Carter vs. Shedeur Sanders—Who’s Their Top Pick

With the 2025 NFL Draft approaching, it’s looking like quarterback Cam Ward is a lock for the Titans at No. 1. That leaves the Browns with a big decision at No. 2: Do they go with Shedeur Sanders, Abdul Carter, or Travis Hunter?

Whatever Cleveland does will shake up the Giants’ plans at No. 3. If the Browns take Hunter, Sanders would still be available—but would the Giants actually take him after signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston? Or would they double down on defense and go with Carter?

New York is doing its homework. According to Sports Illustrated, Giants officials are meeting with Carter at Penn State’s Pro Day, even though the linebacker isn’t working out due to a minor shoulder injury. Still, it’s a chance for them to talk with him and see if he fits their plans.

If the Giants take Carter, it could signal the end of the road for Kayvon Thibodeaux, who hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since being drafted fifth overall in 2022. The team already invested big money in Brian Burns last offseason, so Carter could step in as the new edge-rushing partner.

And if Sanders goes No. 2? Then it’s a choice between Carter and Hunter—unless GM Joe Schoen, whose job might be on the line, decides to trade down.

Big decisions ahead for the Giants. Stay tuned.
