Giants’ WR Darius Slayton to QBs: Come to New York, and Let’s Fly High!

Darius Slayton is back with the New York Giants, but now he’s looking for someone to throw him the ball.

After hitting free agency, the wide receiver re-signed with the Giants and is already making a pitch to quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson to join the team.

“I’d tell them we’ve got a young, talented group of pass-catchers,” Slayton said. “We’re a quarterback-friendly unit, whether you’re a vet or a rookie. Plus, our offensive line has two great tackles, so you’ll be protected. We’ve got weapons, and honestly, the sky’s the limit.”

The Giants struggled offensively last season, scoring the fewest points in the NFC while cycling through three different starting quarterbacks. Right now, the only quarterback on the roster is Tommy DeVito, who started twice as a third-stringer in 2024.

“For a receiver, knowing who’s throwing you the ball is pretty important,” Slayton admitted. “I talked with Coach Daboll and GM Joe Schoen, and I believe in their plan to bring in the right guy who can lead us.”

Despite the instability at quarterback, the Giants still had some solid offensive performances. Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers had 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns, while Wan’Dale Robinson had his best season with 93 catches, 699 yards, and three touchdowns. Rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. also made an impact, rushing for 839 yards and five touchdowns after taking over the starting job in Week 5.

At one point, it looked like Slayton was on his way out, but he ultimately decided to stay in New York.

“I get why people were surprised,” he said. “But I’ve enjoyed my time here. I love my teammates and the people in this building. Sure, we haven’t won as much as I’d like, but I believe we can turn things around. When we start winning, I won’t have a single bad thing to say about this place. I looked at my options, and from both a football and life perspective, staying a Giant was the best choice for me.”

Since Slayton was drafted in 2019, the Giants have struggled, posting a 32-67-1 record. Last season was their worst yet, finishing 3-14.

“It’s like that saying: the devil you know versus the one you don’t,” Slayton said. “I think we’ve got a good offense with a lot of talent, especially at receiver and running back. Our offensive line has improved too. Right now, we just need to figure out the quarterback situation, but the potential is there. And while potential doesn’t win games, it definitely helps.”

Slayton’s decision to stay came with a nice payday—he signed a three-year, $36 million deal with $22 million guaranteed. That’s a big jump from the $15.6 million he made over his first six seasons.

For him, the new contract isn’t just about financial security—it’s also about giving back.

“This means a lot, especially after spending six years not on this side of things,” Slayton said. “My first thought was my family. My mom runs an organization with a few others, and they’ve helped so many people over the years. Now, with this contract, we’ve doubled our ability to give back. I think anyone in my position should do the same—if you have the chance to help others, you should.”
