Jared Goff Shines in Pro Bowl Games, Leads NFC to Early Lead
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff put on a show during the opening night of the Pro Bowl Games, delivering an almost flawless performance that helped the NFC take a 14-7 lead over the AFC. Goff, known for his accuracy and poise under pressure, made every throw count in the passing challenge, earning 44 points for his team—five more than fellow NFC quarterback Sam Darnold of the Minnesota Vikings.
The NFC’s trio of quarterbacks, which included Goff, Darnold, and Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield, outperformed their AFC counterparts—Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow, New England’s Drake Maye, and Pittsburgh’s Russell Wilson. Goff’s pinpoint passing was a major highlight of the night, showcasing the skills that have made him a leader for the Lions and one of the NFC’s top quarterbacks.
Beyond the passing contest, the NFC continued its dominance in multiple skill competitions, including two of three relay races, a “satisfying catches” contest, and a fun game show-style event called “helmet harmony,” which tested the chemistry between NFL teammates. The two sides split the dodgeball matchups, while Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams delivered a powerful spike to win the AFC’s only victory in “the big spike” challenge.
The event wasn’t just about competition—it was also filled with entertainment. The Bosa brothers, Joey and Nick, humorously turned their relay race into a speed-walking contest, while Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase put on a show with a series of one-handed catches in the “satisfying catches” event.
With four more skills challenges still to come on Sunday, along with the highly anticipated flag football finale, the NFC is in a strong position to secure a three-peat in the Pro Bowl Games. Head coach Eli Manning praised his squad’s effort, emphasizing their preparation and determination.
“They’ve been grinding. They’re looking forward to this. They want the three-peat,” Manning said. “Everyone’s been talking about Kansas City next week with a three-peat, but really, all eyes are on the Pro Bowl for the NFC’s three-peat right now.”
Goff’s standout performance is yet another reminder of his continued growth and leadership. After guiding the Lions to one of their most successful seasons in franchise history, he’s proving once again that he’s among the NFL’s elite quarterbacks, even in a relaxed, all-star setting.
