Green Day Takes a Shot at Trump with ‘American Idiot’ Lyric Change at Coachella

Green Day Slams Donald Trump with ‘American Idiot’ Lyric Change at Coachella

It’s that time of year again when everyone heads to the desert for Coachella, the U.S.’s version of Glastonbury, where the biggest music stars light up the stage. This year, Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, and Post Malone are among the big names performing. But before Travis Scott took the stage on April 12, Green Day rocked the crowd and, as always, added a little political punch to their set.

While performing their hit “American Idiot,” the punk band swapped out one of the iconic lyrics to take a dig at Donald Trump. The line “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” was changed to “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda,” sending a clear message to the crowd.

This isn’t the first time Green Day has used their music to make a political statement. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong has changed lyrics in the past to call out figures like Vice President JD Vance and Elon Musk.

The band also made a statement about the Israel-Gaza conflict during “Jesus of Suburbia,” switching out “Runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimized” to “Runnin’ away from pain like the kids from Palestine/Tales from another broken home.”

Green Day’s sets have always been packed with energy, and this one was no different. Fans online reacted, calling it one of the best Coachella performances in years. One fan even said, “Punk is BACK!”
