Day 3 of on-field drills at the 2025 NFL Combine featured the running backs group, with several prospects impressing scouts and analysts. Here are five standouts from the group:
- Jo’quavious “Woody” Marks, USC: Marks was an impressive performer, showing balance and body control throughout drills. He worked with his head up and locked in, making decisive decisions as a runner. As a receiver, he attacked his routes with no hesitation and displayed elite hands.
- Bhayshul Tuten, Virginia Tech: Tuten ran a blazing 4.32 40-yard dash, but his speed wasn’t always on display in drills. However, he showed shimmy in his game, was light on his feet, and had clean routes.
- Kyle Monangai, Rutgers: Monangai is stout and muscular, with powerful steps and aggressive cuts. He gets moving quickly, especially when moving laterally to the outside, and transitions well. His hands work for his role, and his wheel route was impressive.
- Jarquez Hunter, Auburn: Hunter ran a 4.44 40-yard dash and had solid on-field drills. His cuts were decent, his hands caught everything, and he was shifty in routes. However, he didn’t display any elite traits.
- Jaydon Blue, Texas: Blue ran an impressive 4.38 40-yard dash but didn’t participate in on-field drills. With his connection to Lions running back Tashard Choice and ability to be a pass-catching mismatch, he should be in play for the Lions.
Bonus player: Dylan Sampson, Tennessee: Sampson didn’t run a 40-yard dash due to an injury but impressed in on-field drills. He displayed quick feet, balanced body control, and was sharp in his cuts. He made decisive decisions while moving forward and was dynamic in the passing game.
