The Detroit Lions have assembled a promising group of undrafted free agents (UDFAs) who are currently in the thick of competition for a spot on the final 53-man roster.
As training camp approaches, seven of the team’s original UDFA signees are still in the mix, holding on to their shot at making the team. Two of the original signees—tight end Caden Prieskorn and cornerback Gavin Holmes—have already been released. But the Lions didn’t stop there; they’ve since added defensive lineman Keith Cooper Jr. and tight end Luke Deal to the roster.
Interestingly, Deal joined the team on a three-year UDFA contract that came with no guaranteed money—a rarity in today’s NFL landscape.
On the flip side, some players received substantial guarantees right out of the gate. Wide receivers Jakobie Keeney-James and Jackson Meeks were given $254,000 and $220,000, respectively. Meanwhile, North Dakota State offensive lineman Mason Miller came in at the lower end with $30,000 guaranteed.
Here’s a quick snapshot of the Lions’ UDFA guarantee breakdown, courtesy of Lions Wire:
Jakobie Keeney-James: $254,000
Jackson Meeks: $220,000
Keith Cooper Jr.: $145,000
Zach Horton: $100,000
Anthony Tyus III: $75,000
Kye Robichaux: $50,000
Ian Kennelly: $40,000
Mason Miller: $30,000
