Harsh Truth for Russell Wilson as Aaron Rodgers Steals the Spotlight

The New York Giants have already signed Jameis Winston, but that doesn’t mean they’re done looking at quarterbacks. They’re still rumored to be interested in Aaron Rodgers, leaving Russell Wilson in a tough spot. Wilson, who remains unsigned, is running out of options, and according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Giants signing Winston makes a Wilson deal even less likely.

“I don’t see where Wilson fits right now,” Breer noted. “The Giants going after Rodgers means Wilson’s chances there are slim.”

Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers, who had Wilson last season, recently hosted Rodgers for a visit. While it’s unclear if they want Wilson back, they may have to consider it if other plans don’t work out. If Wilson does land in either New York or Pittsburgh, he might have to battle for the starting job instead of walking in as QB1.

Where Could Wilson Land?

There’s been a lot of conflicting chatter about whether the Giants are actually interested in Wilson. Even after signing Winston, some reports suggested that Wilson was still in play. However, other sources have claimed that Rodgers is their real target, and if he heads to Pittsburgh, that could leave Wilson out in the cold.

If the Giants and Steelers pass on him, Wilson might have to look at teams like the Cleveland Browns, who could use an experienced QB. But with the Browns likely drafting a quarterback, Wilson might not have long-term security there either.

At this point, Wilson has some tough choices ahead. He needs to find a team that makes sense for him—one that actually wants him as a starter, not just a backup option.
