He’s Back: Aaron Rodgers to Face Lions Again After Signing with Steelers

Just when the Detroit Lions thought they were finally done with Aaron Rodgers… he pulls them back in.

After years of tormenting the Lions in a Green Bay Packers uniform—and a brief stint with the New York Jets—it looked like Rodgers might finally be out of the NFC picture. But nope. He’s back, and this time as a Pittsburgh Steeler.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rodgers plans to sign with the Steelers and will be in Pittsburgh for mandatory minicamp next week. NFL insider Tom Pelissero confirmed the move, noting that Rodgers, now 41, is gearing up for his 21st NFL season—this time in black and gold.

So what does that mean for Detroit? Circle December 21 on your calendar. That’s when the Lions host the Steelers at Ford Field in a juicy Week 16 matchup. Rodgers may be older, but he’s still Rodgers—and the Motor City faithful haven’t forgotten how often he crushed their hopes over the years.

In 26 career games against the Lions, Rodgers racked up 18 wins, 54 touchdowns, and just 12 picks, with a passer rating north of 105. So yeah, he’s done damage.

But this time around, it’s a different Detroit. The Lions are a contender, they’re playing with purpose, and you know Dan Campbell will have this game circled in red. Rodgers may be coming back to Detroit—but now, the Lions are ready to fight back.
