“He’s Just Scratching the Surface”: Campbell Challenges Jameson Williams to Level Up

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell isn’t shy about his expectations for Jameson Williams. While the third-year wideout has shown flashes of game-breaking speed and playmaking ability, Campbell made it clear: Williams is just scratching the surface.

Speaking after a recent training camp practice, Campbell praised the young receiver’s progress but emphasized there’s still plenty of growth ahead.

“He’s improved, no doubt. His route running is cleaner, and he’s working hard,” Campbell said. “But there’s so much more he can be. He’s got all the tools—you see it when he gets in space—but we’re not even close to the finished product yet.”

Williams, who’s dealt with injuries and inconsistency since being drafted in the first round, is now healthy and stringing together strong practices. Still, Campbell is pushing him to be more polished, consistent, and locked in every day. For the Lions to take the next step as an offense, Williams becoming a reliable weapon could be the X-factor.
