High Stakes: Lions Need Terrion Arnold to Emerge as Defensive Star

Last year, Lions GM Brad Holmes made an aggressive move, trading up to draft cornerback Terrion Arnold late in the first round. Arnold showed flashes as a rookie, but his second season could determine just how good Detroit’s defense can be.

Arnold will be expected to step up alongside new veteran corner D.J. Reed, and Lions coaches believe he’s ready. Defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend praised Arnold’s commitment this offseason, saying he’s putting in the work to become elite.

“Terrion wants to be the best, and he’s grinding every day,” Townsend said. “That’s exactly what it takes.”

Arnold’s growth in Year 2 will be crucial not just for him but for the entire Lions secondary. A breakout season could help turn Detroit’s defense from good to great, giving them a serious shot at a deep playoff run.
