The Detroit Lions clashed with the Kansas City Chiefs on October 12 in a heated showdown at Arrowhead Stadium.
Both teams fought fiercely, but the Chiefs emerged victorious, securing a 30-17 win. The game wasn’t without drama, especially when Lions’ Brian Branch got into a post-game scuffle with Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and Juju Smith-Schuster, earning a one-game suspension from the NFL.
Beyond Branch, two other Lions players faced penalties for their actions. The NFL’s weekly report, released every Saturday, flagged Alex Anzalone and Tyler Lacy for “unnecessary roughness” and “striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing.” Anzalone was fined $12,172, while Lacy faced a $5,722 penalty, as outlined in the Week 6 report. The NFL noted that these fines support the Professional Athletes Foundation and the NFL Foundation, aiding athletes and youth football programs.
The game also sparked controversy over officiating. A touchdown by Lions quarterback Jared Goff was nullified due to an alleged trick-play error.
Coach Dan Campbell, speaking on 97.1 FM The Ticket on October 15, said the league’s New York office directed the call, but referee Craig Wrolstad later claimed no such communication occurred, leaving fans puzzled.
Despite the loss, the Lions remain a powerhouse this season, with hopes high for a strong playoff run.
