The Detroit Lions’ new offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, is living a dream he never thought possible. Johnson, who was promoted to the position after serving as the team’s tight ends coach, is thrilled to be working in his hometown and for the team he grew up cheering for.
Johnson’s journey to becoming the Lions’ offensive coordinator is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He began his coaching career in 2010 as a graduate assistant at Central Michigan University, where he earned his master’s degree. From there, he moved on to work as a tight ends coach at several colleges, including Boston College and Maryland.
In 2019, Johnson made the jump to the NFL, joining the Lions as their tight ends coach. During his time in that role, he worked closely with the team’s offense, developing a deep understanding of the unit’s strengths and weaknesses.
Now, as the Lions’ offensive coordinator, Johnson is tasked with designing and implementing a game plan that will help the team succeed. He’s working closely with head coach Dan Campbell and the rest of the coaching staff to create an offense that is both explosive and efficient.
Johnson’s promotion to offensive coordinator is a dream come true for the Michigan native. Growing up, he was a huge Lions fan, and now he has the opportunity to help shape the team’s offense and contribute to its success.
“It’s surreal,” Johnson said of his new role. “I’m living a dream that I never thought was possible. To be able to work for the team that I grew up cheering for, it’s an incredible honor.”
