How the Lions’ ‘Bama Boys’ are Shaping an Alabama DB’s NFL Journey

Malachi Moore, the 23-year-old Alabama defensive back, is making waves at the 2025 NFL Combine and he’s already drawing connections to the Detroit Lions. Speaking about his strong bond with former teammates Brian Branch and Terrion Arnold, Moore expressed his excitement about potentially joining the Lions’ secondary. The three players, all from Alabama, have kept in touch regularly, with Branch and Arnold offering Moore valuable insights on the NFL’s game dynamics.

Moore’s versatility has been a key asset throughout his career. After transitioning from the “star” position to safety, he became a first-team All-SEC player in his final season, recording impressive stats like 70 tackles, 8 passes defended, and 2 interceptions. Moore feels his experience in multiple roles gives him an edge in this year’s draft class, particularly in man coverage, a skill he developed guarding elite players like Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith during his time at Alabama.

His natural aggressiveness, combined with strong communication skills developed under Coach Nick Saban, positions Moore as a potential standout in the NFL. While the Lions haven’t met with him yet, Moore’s familiarity with Branch and Arnold could make for a seamless integration into the team’s defense if Detroit decides to add safety depth this year.
