After years of waiting behind the scenes in one of the most competitive quarterback rooms in college football, Ty Simpson has finally spoken — and he’s confident the time has come to lead the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The redshirt junior quarterback met with media during Alabama’s summer media availability and didn’t shy away from addressing the ongoing quarterback competition head-on.
> “I feel like I’ve waited my turn,” Simpson said. “I came here to compete, to learn, and to lead. I’ve done the work. Now I’m ready.”
The Patience of a Leader
Simpson, a former five-star recruit, has remained patient through depth chart battles, spot duty, and system changes — most recently under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. While many players in his position may have transferred, Simpson stayed the course, determined to prove his value in Tuscaloosa.
> “It wasn’t always easy,” he admitted. “There were moments where I had to ask myself if it was worth it. But being part of this program — being a part of Alabama football — that’s something I’ve always wanted. And I knew my moment would come.”
Now, with Jalen Milroe having departed for the NFL and a new coaching staff in place, Simpson finds himself at the forefront of Alabama’s offense heading into fall camp.
A New System, A New Opportunity
Under DeBoer and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, Alabama is installing a more pass-focused, West Coast-style offense — a system that seems tailor-made for Simpson’s skill set. Known for his accuracy and decision-making, Simpson has reportedly taken big strides in spring and summer practices.
> “Coach DeBoer’s offense is about rhythm, timing, and trust,” Simpson explained. “I’ve really clicked with it. It’s a fresh start, and I’m embracing every part of it.”
Competition Still Looms
Despite Simpson’s veteran status, the competition remains open. Highly touted freshman Jalen Dupree and redshirt sophomore Malachi Stewart are also pushing for snaps, each showing flashes throughout spring camp.
Still, Simpson believes his experience — both in the SEC and inside the program — gives him an edge.
> “I’ve seen what it takes to win here,” he said. “I’ve learned from Coach Saban, from the guys ahead of me, and now from Coach DeBoer. That matters. Experience matters.”
Team-First Mentality Remains
Even as he makes his case to start, Simpson’s focus remains squarely on the team.
> “Whatever helps us win — that’s what matters most,” Simpson said. “Whether I’m throwing touchdowns, helping coach up the younger guys, or leading from the front, I’ll do what Alabama needs.”
His words reflect the maturity and leadership that many within the program have praised throughout the offseason. Coaches have described him as composed, competitive, and resilient — qualities essential in the post-Saban transition.
Looking Ahead
With the season opener against South Florida just over two months away, Alabama’s quarterback competition is far from decided. But one thing is clear: Ty Simpson is done waiting quietly in the shadows.
> “I’ve prepared for this moment. I stayed when I could’ve left. I believed in this team, and I believe in myself,” he said. “This is my time — and I’m ready to lead.”

Bottom Line:
As Alabama charts a new path under Coach DeBoer, Ty Simpson’s patience and perseverance may finally pay off — at exactly the moment the Crimson Tide needs it most.
