The Detroit Lions have found a true gem in wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Over four seasons, he’s racked up over 4,800 receiving yards and scored 33 touchdowns, establishing himself as a key figure in the team’s offense.
But recently, the spotlight turned away from football — and toward controversy.

Amon-Ra’s father, John Brown, a former Mr. Universe and known for his disciplined parenting, sparked outrage after comments made on The St. Brown Brothers Podcast, which he appeared on with his sons.
In the video, John expressed strong views on interracial relationships, particularly when it comes to his sons. Despite having once been in an interracial relationship himself, he warned his children not to follow in his footsteps if they hope to raise elite athletes.
“I adulterated the genetics at a point where it wouldn’t matter,” he said, “but [my sons] cannot afford to further ‘cut’ it.”
John, who has three sons — two of whom made it to the NFL — explained his perspective from a genetic and performance standpoint, not out of hatred, noting that they need to “stick to their kind” to maintain strong athletic lineage.
The remarks stirred immediate reactions online, with many fans calling the comments racist and hypocritical. Some defended him, citing a father’s desire to pass on success, while others expressed deep concern.
Amon-Ra, a standout receiver since being drafted in 2021, is currently in a relationship with Brooklyn Adams, who is believed to be White. The couple has been together since high school but does not have children.
His brothers, Equanimeous and Osiris, also played Division I football. Equanimeous reached the NFL, while Osiris transitioned to business after injuries.
The brothers grew up under strict discipline and a rigorous training schedule, a foundation that helped them reach elite levels — but now, the focus is on a family controversy that’s taken center stage.
