Injury Blow and Silver Lining: D.J. Reed to IR as Lions Welcome Alim McNeill’s Return

The Detroit Lions are making key roster adjustments as they prepare for their next matchup. Cornerback D.J. Reed has officially been placed on injured reserve (IR), dealing a tough blow to Detroit’s already thin secondary. But there’s a silver lining — the Lions also opened the practice window for defensive tackle Alim McNeill, signaling his return could be near.

Reed’s move to IR means he’ll miss at least four games, leaving the Lions’ defense without one of their more reliable cover men. His physicality and veteran presence in the secondary will be missed as Detroit faces a stretch of pass-heavy opponents.

Meanwhile, McNeill’s return to practice couldn’t come at a better time. The powerful defensive tackle had been sidelined with an injury but has been a crucial part of Detroit’s interior defense. His ability to collapse pockets and clog running lanes makes him one of the team’s most valuable defensive players.

Head coach Dan Campbell expressed optimism about McNeill’s progress, noting that his energy and leadership on the defensive line make a noticeable difference.

While losing Reed hurts, getting McNeill back in the rotation could help Detroit maintain its defensive dominance — especially as the team continues its push to stay atop the NFC North.
