đ¨ Lions Might Be Done With This $5.5M Defender
The Detroit Lions have some serious star power with guys like Jared Goff, Aidan Hutchinson, and Amon-Ra St. Brown leading the charge. But not everyone on the roster is safe â and one young defender might be packing his bags before training camp even kicks off.
đŤBye-Bye Brodric Martin?
Brodric Martin, a third-round pick just last year (2023), is now barely hanging on to a roster spot. Heâs only played in five games since joining the team and has a grand total of four tackles and zero sacks to his name. Not exactly the breakout season the Lions were hoping for.
According to Chris Schad from Detroit Jock City, Martin is way behind the pack. Guys like Levi Onwuzurike, Roy Lopez, and rookie Mekhi Wingo are looking like locks for the final roster â and Martin? Heâll need the training camp of his life just to keep his job. Schad even says thereâs a decent chance Martin wonât make it to camp at all. Brutal.
The Lions may just have too much depth on the D-line and could shift those roster spots to positions like linebacker, where thereâs a 10-man battle brewing.
đWhatâs Next for Martin?
If Detroit does cut him, itâll be interesting to see if another team picks him up or if this is one of those NFL careers that quietly ends before it really starts. A tough break for a guy who once showed promise out of Western Kentucky.
⨠On the Bright Side: Rookie Watch
Now for some good news â Detroit mightâve hit gold with rookie guard Tate Ratledge. Rob Rang from Fox Sports just named him the Lionsâ top rookie this year.
Detroitâs had a solid offensive line for a while, but guard has been a weaker spot. Ratledge could change that. Heâs being called a potentially dominant blocker and someone who could hold down the line for years to come â if he stays healthy.
