Kerby Joseph’s New Deal: A Step Toward the Hall of Fame, Not Just a Payday
Kerby Joseph isn’t just chasing contracts—he’s chasing greatness. And with his latest deal inked with the Detroit Lions, the talented safety believes he’s one giant step closer to the ultimate goal: a gold jacket and enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
A Historic Contract with Deeper Meaning
Coming off a breakout season that earned him All-Pro honors, Joseph has signed a four-year, $86 million contract extension that locks him in with the Lions through 2029. The deal makes him the highest-paid safety in NFL history, but for Joseph, it represents far more than just financial security.
“This is a huge, huge milestone in my career,” he said, via Lions OnSI. “If everyone truly heard my story, the stuff I had to go through to get here… I just feel so blessed.”
Joseph didn’t hesitate to connect this moment to a much bigger vision. “It means everything. I feel like it strives toward my goal of me one day putting on the gold jacket.”
More Than Money
Despite the record-setting numbers on his new deal, Joseph made it clear: money has never been his motivation.
“Honestly, the money never motivated me. I do this because I love it,” he shared. “It comes with it, but I really play this game because I love it. I just have a certain passion for this game I can never let go.”
That unwavering love for football is exactly what’s fueled Joseph’s rapid rise—from a third-round pick in 2022 to becoming one of the league’s top defensive playmakers. His league-leading nine interceptions in 2024 earned him national recognition and helped anchor Detroit’s defense.
Eyes on the Future
With his future in Detroit secured, Joseph isn’t planning to take his foot off the gas. If anything, his sights are set even higher.
“Now I’m trying to PR. I’ve got nine, now I’ve got to get 10, get some sacks in there,” he said with a grin. “I’m always gonna strive for greatness, strive to beat records. It’s only up from here.”
At just 24 years old, Joseph is building something special. With a contract that honors his value and a mindset that hungers for legacy, he’s not just playing for today—he’s aiming for Canton.
