J.J. McCarthy is back on the field and feeling refreshed — both physically and mentally. The Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback, who recently returned from an ankle injury, described his comeback as “a little bit of a reset” following his first full practice since being sidelined.
McCarthy admitted that the time away gave him perspective. Instead of frustration, the young QB used the break to refocus and get his mind right for the long season ahead. “Sometimes stepping back lets you see the bigger picture,” he said, emphasizing that the downtime helped him approach the game with renewed energy and sharper intent.
For the Vikings, McCarthy’s return couldn’t come at a better time. The team is preparing for a huge divisional showdown against the Detroit Lions, and having their promising young quarterback back under center is a major boost. McCarthy looked confident in practice — moving well, throwing with rhythm, and reconnecting with his offense.
Detroit, however, won’t make his “reset” an easy one. With Aidan Hutchinson and a deep Lions defense waiting, McCarthy’s comeback game could be a real test of that fresh mindset. Still, for the former Michigan star, it’s a chance to prove that he’s ready to lead — not just recover.
