When the Detroit Lions drafted Jahmyr Gibbs at No. 12 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, many questioned the move. But two years later, Gibbs has silenced those doubts—and then some.

With 31 touchdowns and nearly 2,000 all-purpose yards just last season, the young running back has become a key piece in Detroit’s rise to Super Bowl contention. Explosive, versatile, and creative, Gibbs thrived in an offense that ranked among the league’s most dynamic units.

Now heading into 2025, Gibbs is setting the tone early with a bold commitment to the team’s mission.

“I want to win a Super Bowl. I’ll line up at safety, at nickel,” he said, via Brad Galli.

Of course, it’s unlikely the coaching staff will call on him to play defense, but his words reflect a team-first mindset. Gibbs has embraced his unique role in the offense and isn’t shying away from what’s ahead.

As one of the league’s top backs, Gibbs is coming off a massive year—1,929 all-purpose yards and 20 touchdowns. But with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson now leading the Bears, the offense may take a slightly different shape.

Still, Gibbs seems locked in and ready for whatever comes next.

The Lions’ defense—especially in the secondary—is solid, but depth was tested last season due to injuries. If adversity strikes again, who knows? Maybe Dan Campbell gets creative. Just maybe, fans will get a glimpse of Gibbs showing off those nickel skills.

Either way, he’s ready to do whatever it takes.
