The Dallas Cowboys have a straightforward approach for the early rounds of the draft, particularly with their recent defensive signings in free agency. With that in mind, the focus will likely shift to bolstering the offense. The ideal scenario for the front office would be selecting a receiver like Tetairoa McMillan or Matthew Golden in the first round, followed by a running back such as Omarion Hampton or TreVeyon Henderson in the second.

However, with Dallas holding the 12th overall pick, their options are vast, and one surprising possibility is that they could select tight end Tyler Warren. This unexpected move is being discussed by Pro Football Focus in their latest mock draft, especially with McMillan and Jeanty already off the board.

According to Pro Football Focus, “Dallas is in need of playmakers all over the offense, and here they have a choice between Matthew Golden and Tyler Warren. While they would be well served to nab either, Warren is a unique playmaker who would unlock this offense. With Jake Ferguson on the roster – and in a contract year – Dallas can become a more versatile offense after running one of the lowest rates of 12 personnel (10.8%) in 2024, due in part to a lack of talent at the position.”

If the Cowboys do go for Warren, it would likely signal the end of Jake Ferguson’s tenure in Dallas, as 2025 is the final year of his rookie contract. It could also create some uncertainty around Luke Schoonmaker’s future. Warren, however, would step in seamlessly, offering Dak Prescott a strong No. 2 receiving option. Known for his physicality and intensity, Warren fits the style that offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer values.

The Penn State standout posted impressive stats in 2024, racking up 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns on 104 receptions, easily earning the title of the top tight end in the draft class. While the Cowboys are likely to prioritize a receiver and running back early on, if Warren is still available, he would be a compelling choice. But taking Warren would also mean admitting that selecting Schoonmaker in the second round was a mistake, which seems unlikely. Still, Warren in Dallas could create an exciting dynamic, with the tight end becoming one of Prescott’s top receiving targets.
