The Philadelphia Eagles made their way to the White House on Monday to celebrate their Super Bowl 59 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs—but star quarterback Jalen Hurts was noticeably missing.
Hurts, who played college ball at Alabama and was named Super Bowl MVP, didn’t make the trip. According to NBC News reporter Yamiche Alcindor, the White House said it was due to a scheduling conflict. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had already mentioned that the event was optional.
Hurts wasn’t the only former Alabama standout who skipped the visit—wide receiver DeVonta Smith, a Heisman winner who played with Hurts at Alabama, didn’t show up either, as noted by NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark.
This wasn’t the first time the Eagles skipped a White House visit. After their last Super Bowl win in the 2017-18 season, they chose not to meet with then-President Trump. But now, with Trump back for a second term, he extended another invite—and this time, some players showed up.
Trump is scheduled to speak at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa on Thursday, just before the University of Alabama’s spring graduation. Graduates can attend the speech for free.
Some Crimson Tide alumni were at the White House, though—like defensive back Eli Ricks, who even posted about seeing Ivanka Trump on social media.
