The Giants finally added a quarterback, striking a deal with Jameis Winston. But don’t think for a second that means they’re done making moves at the position.
More QBs Still in Play?
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Winston’s signing doesn’t rule out the Giants going after another big-name QB, like Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson. Even if they bring in another veteran, they’re still expected to draft a rookie quarterback with the third-overall pick.
Plan B After Missing Out on Mason Rudolph
Last week, reports suggested the Giants might grab a free-agent quarterback sooner rather than later. They initially had their sights set on Mason Rudolph, but after missing out on him, they went for Winston, who has even more starting experience.
Winston’s deal—two years for $8 million—is pretty standard for a backup. With 87 career starts, including seven with the Browns last season, many assumed he’d be a temporary starter until their rookie pick was ready. But now, it looks like he could just be a backup to whoever else the Giants bring in.
Rodgers Looking Unlikely, But Wilson Still in the Mix
Rodgers recently met with the Steelers, making it seem less likely that the Giants will land him. However, Russell Wilson is reportedly still interested in New York, and with QB opportunities drying up, he might not have many better options.
What’s Next for the Giants?
With Winston joining Tommy DeVito on the roster, the Giants aren’t in desperate need of another quarterback. But his signing gives them flexibility, and they may not be done making moves. Whether it’s adding another veteran or drafting a top prospect, their QB situation is still a work in progress.
