Jameis Winston has officially signed with the New York Giants, and he’s embracing the challenge ahead. The veteran quarterback addressed the team’s decision to bring in Russell Wilson after he initially agreed to terms, making it clear he knew more competition was coming.
“I knew a free agent signing was going to come or maybe even a draft pick,” Winston said. “That’s their business. My business is today, and today I have the privilege of finally becoming a Giant.”
Winston, who signed a two-year deal, sees himself in a role that could involve competing for the starting job, mentoring a young quarterback, or supporting Wilson. He reflected on his time backing up Drew Brees in New Orleans, calling it one of the best experiences of his career, and said he would “cherish” the opportunity to help a young QB develop.
Another factor that drew Winston to New York was head coach Brian Daboll. He praised Daboll’s offensive creativity and his work with Josh Allen, believing the system could help him play at his best.
With Wilson on a one-year contract and the Giants potentially eyeing a future franchise quarterback in the draft, Winston’s role could evolve over time. For now, he’s focused on competing and helping the team improve at the position.
