Jared Goff Cracks NFL’s Elite: Finally Gets the Respect He Deserves

It’s about time Jared Goff got his flowers.

The Detroit Lions quarterback has quietly put together one of the most efficient and productive resumes in the NFL over the past couple seasons. But while names like Mahomes and Allen always dominate the spotlight, Goff has often been left out of the elite QB conversation. That’s finally starting to change.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler just released his annual quarterback rankings, compiled from the input of coaches, executives, and scouts across the league. And guess what? Goff has officially landed in the top 10 — coming in at No. 8, up from No. 9 last year. That’s real respect.

According to the report, Goff appeared on 82% of top-10 ballots, and his play-action stats in 2024 were off the charts — leading the league with 1,978 yards and 15 touchdowns while completing over 75% of his throws off play-action. An AFC scout credited Goff’s improved footwork and pocket presence for his resurgence, noting that Detroit’s coaching has given him the stability to thrive.

With offensive coordinator Ben Johnson gone, the 2025 season will be a new test — but Goff’s cool, efficient style looks built to last. ESPN’s Peter Schrager even called him “the most pivotal player of the NFL season.”

And yes, former Lion Matthew Stafford ranked a bit higher at No. 6 — but Goff has outdueled him in head-to-head matchups and led Detroit deeper into contention. So don’t count out No. 16 just yet.

The bottom line? Jared Goff has arrived — and this time, the league is finally paying attention.
