Jared Goff on Ben Johnson’s Head Coaching Future: “I’d Like Him for At Least One More”
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff weighed in on offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s growing interest as a head coaching candidate. Speaking on 97.1 The Ticket, Goff praised Johnson’s impact on the Lions’ offense while expressing hope that his OC sticks around.
“Obviously, I love Ben. He’s the best, and I wish him the best in whatever he ends up doing, but he knows I’d like to have him for at least one more,” Goff said.

Johnson has been instrumental in transforming the Lions’ offense since taking over as offensive coordinator in 2022. His collaborative relationship with Goff has produced one of the league’s most efficient offenses, showcasing Goff’s strengths and creativity.
As of now, Johnson has drawn interest from the Bears, Patriots, Jaguars, and most recently, the Raiders, with interviews scheduled for Chicago and New England. NFL insider Tom Pelissero noted Johnson’s particular intrigue with the Bears and Patriots’ vacancies, signaling his methodical approach to finding the right fit.
Goff Reflects on Their Partnership
Goff emphasized the value of having a coordinator like Johnson, who is receptive to his quarterback’s ideas.
“I’m very thankful to have a coach who listens and wants to hear from me… It’s fun to be working with him,” Goff shared.
While Goff’s comments hinted at optimism that Johnson might remain in Detroit, the decision ultimately rests on whether Johnson finds a head coaching opportunity too enticing to pass up.
