Ben Johnson Takes Another Shot at Jared Goff—Just for Fun or Something More?
It looks like Ben Johnson isn’t done stirring the pot with the Detroit Lions. At the NFL Combine, the former Lions offensive coordinator—now the Chicago Bears’ head coach—made yet another remark about Jared Goff, this time playfully comparing his throwing ability to Penei Sewell’s.
Speaking on Pro Football Talk, Johnson recalled Sewell making impressive passes in practice, then added:
“The best part of that was he threw a dime every single time in practice. It was better than some other people—Jared Goff.”
Johnson and Goff worked together from 2021 to 2024, with Johnson playing a key role in revitalizing the quarterback’s career. But now, as the head coach of a division rival, he seems to be turning up the friendly (or not-so-friendly) trash talk ahead of what’s shaping up to be a heated season.
Was this just good-natured fun, or is Johnson trying to get under Goff’s skin? Either way, the Lions-Bears matchups in 2025 just got even more interesting.
