Jared Goff Just Shook Up Detroit – Big Moves Ahead!

Jared Goff’s Not Just Playing for Detroit – He’s Building Something Bigger

The Lions might be chilling for now before the grind of the NFL season kicks in this fall, but things are definitely heating up off the field—especially when it comes to quarterback Jared Goff.

Yeah, Goff’s a California guy, but he’s been making it clear he’s fallen hard for Detroit. Not only is he calling it home, but now he’s going all in on the city’s future.

And here’s the big news: Goff is officially stepping into the business side of sports with a huge move that’s about to shake up Detroit in a whole new way.

Detroit’s Getting a WNBA Team – And Goff’s In On It

Big-time news dropped on June 30: The WNBA is bringing a brand new team to Detroit for the 2029 season. And guess who’s one of the key investors? That’s right—Jared Goff. He’s teaming up with some serious names like Pistons owner Tom Gores, Lions owner Sheila Hamp, NBA legends Grant Hill and Chris Webber, GM CEO Mary Barra, and yes, Eminem himself.

No, you’re not dreaming. Eminem and Jared Goff are co-investors in a pro basketball team. If that’s not the most Detroit thing ever, I don’t know what is.

This move brings the WNBA back to the Motor City for the first time since the Detroit Shock bounced to Tulsa back in 2010 (they’re now the Dallas Wings). So yeah, this is huge.

A Win for the City

“This is a huge win for Detroit and the WNBA,” Gores said in a statement. “Detroit played a key role in the league’s early days, and we’re proud to bring that legacy back.”

The new WNBA squad isn’t just showing up and playing—they’re getting their own facility right on the Detroit riverfront, near the old Uniroyal site. Pretty sweet.

And while the team might not be called the Shock again (no final name yet), they will carry on the old team’s history. That means three WNBA championships already baked into the DNA.

More Teams, More Growth

Detroit isn’t the only city getting in on the action. Cleveland’s getting a team in 2028, Philly’s joining in 2030, and Portland and Toronto are launching in 2026. The WNBA is clearly on the rise, and Detroit’s about to be a big part of it.

So, while Jared Goff’s prepping to lead the Lions on another playoff run, he’s also helping shape the city’s sports future. Football in the fall, basketball in the summer—Motor City fans are gonna be eating good year-round.
